Founded in 1995 by president of the Paris Cookbook Fair, Édouard Cointreau, The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards is a prestigious international organisation which annually honours the best food and wine books from 205 countries: http://www.cookbookfair.com/
The book will now go up against other country winners in its category for the title of Best in the World: Professionals; the winner will be announced at the end of May.
The book has been selling extremely well, reaching its peak position at No. 2 on the South African best-sellers list. It was No. 9 on the non-fiction best-sellers list for the week leading up to Christmas 2016, and remained at No. 5 on the cookbook list in the first week of January this year.
The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards is parallel to the history of cookbook publishing in the past 15 years. The Gourmand Awards are often compared by journalists to the “Oscars”. The Best in the World Awards will be announced during 2 awards ceremonies, one for food culture, the other for drinks culture which will be inspired by the Olympic Spirit.
